Getting to Philadelphia

From locations on northeast train corridor, Amtrak is a very convenient way to get to Philadelphia. The area also has 4 major airports within 2 hours of driving distance from the downtown.
  1. Philadelphia (PHL) - Philadelphia International Airport

The airport is served by SEPTA Regional Rail Airport Line with downtown departures (to either Jefferson or Suburban stations) every ½ hour. It is a very convenient and inexpensive way to get to the Marriott or other hotels. You can buy a ticket either from the ticket machine at the station or simply on the train from the conductor (at a slightly elevated fee — $8 vs. $6.50).

Taxi is another way to get to downtown and only takes about 20 minutes at about $20.

Regarding driving, please see the driving directions. Be aware that downtown hotels may charge a hefty parking fee for personal/rental cars.
  2. Newark (EWR) - Newark Liberty International Airport

Newark is about 1.5 hours away from downtown Philadelphia by car. The airport has an Amtrak station where you can catch trains to Philadelphia 30th Street Station. Upon arriving at 30th Street Station, take SEPTA to TUCC (Suburban Station).
  3. New York (JFK) or (LGA). Please avoid if possible!

Getting to Philadelphia downtown from JFK/LGA is quite inconvenient and expensive. Public transportation options involve a taxi from JFK to Penn Station (expensive!), Amtrak from Penn Station to Philadelphia Center City 30th Street Station, and then local SEPTA transportation. The total time spent could easily exceed 3 hours.

Here are Driving Instructions (or taxi) route from JFK to NY Penn Station.
