"Issues in Developing the New Generation High Performance Computers"

Speaker: Prof. Depei Qian

Professor at Beihang University, Director of Sino-German Joint Software Institute, China

Abstract:

This talk will begin with a brief review of HPC development in China in the past two decades. The major challenges in developing the new generation high performance computers, such as performance obtained by applications, low power consumption, programmability, and resilience, will be introduced, Approaches to address those issues will be discussed, including architectures, processors, interconnect, reliability mechanisms, low power design, system software, and parallel programming support. The prospect of HPC development in China in the next five years will be briefly presented towards the end of the talk.
